Rumor Control: Part Three

The Facts (Credit for this information goes to James Dark, May 29, 2009)

According to whois.com registry the domain is registered by proxy in Arizona to a firm that specializes in the privacy of the domain owner. If the owner or publisher stay legal, i.e., nothing illegal or libelous they can post anything and the ownership of the domain will remain protected, not available to anyone short of through legal channels.

So who runs this domain http://www.ammunitionaccountability.org/ it appears that it is owned by a lobbying and political firm of Gordon, Thomas, Honeywell, which is under the employ of a company called Ammunition Coding Systems (ACS). ACS was co-founded by two people, Russ Ford and Steve Mace, they in turn almost certainly own the patent or patent’s on any system designed to micro etch or laser engrave codes on projectiles and castings.

Russ Ford was recently on the NRA news with Cam Edwards. During a rigorous by Cam, Ford admitted that his company runs http://www.ammunitionaccountability.org/, but Ford also claimed that the relationship was transparent. If his company is transparent why the need to go through a ghost company?

Although Ford stated that his system if basically a theory and that it has never been tested in any actual manufacturing environment he continued to insist that the process was sound and it would accomplish the requirements of legislation. Ford claims that their system has the capability to produce 20 or 50 round boxes of ammunition with all rounds within that box encoded (required on both the projectile and casing). Of course legislation like this could not be passed without punishment. A manufacturer who misses one round would be fined $10,000, for a technology that has yet to be proven or even tested.

The bottom line is that Ford and ACS stand to make millions of dollars on royalty income, While on NRA news with Cam Edwards Ford stated that his company had sent out 400 letters to ammunition manufacturers and had only received one letter back, it was addressed wrong, Cam Edwards said to Ford “No one is under any obligation to help you out with an idea that they think is stupid”. ACS could not get the manufactures to accept their idea so they figured they could force it in through legislation.

To date ACS has managed to get a bill requiring coding of bullets and cases. The states and the status of the bill are listed below.

Alabama Senate bill 541: Indefinitely postpones in house of origin. It will not pass and will have to be reintroduced.
Arizona House bill2833: It never got heard in any committee. Never voted on. It to be reintroduced.

California Senate Bill 997: SB997 has no info on it, and died in committee. SB1471 passed and is now known as the “Crime Gun Identification Act of 2007.” It was authored by Assembly member Mike Feuer (D-Los Angeles) and was signed by Governor Arnold Schwarenegger. It also has no wording in it that would indicate that citizens would need to turn in their guns. It assl could be rendered moot depending on the technology and it is not part of AAA agenda.

Connecticut raised Bill 603: The bill ws raised and had a public hearing. No action was taken. It to be reintroduced.

Hawaii House Bill 2392: Senate Bill 2020: Senate Bill 2076: All bills were deferred to the judiciary with no futher action taken. It to be reintroduced.

Illinois House Bills 4258, 4259, 4269, 4349, Senate Bill 1095: All bills referred to Rules Committee. No further actions were taken.

Indiana House Bill 1260: Was sent to committee and not acted on. It to be reintroduced.

Kentucky House Bill 715: Withdrawn.

Maryland House Bill 517: No copy no copy of the report. It did not pass. It to be reintroduced.

Mississippi Senate Bill 2286: Died in committee.

Missouri Senate Bill 1200: Referred to Judiciary. It to be reintroduced.

New Jersey Assembly Bill 2490: Referred to Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee. It to be reintroduced.

Pennsylvania House Bill: Referred to Judiciary on Feb 5, 2008. No action taken.

Rhode Island Senate Bill2742:Committee recommended measure be held for futher study. It to be reintroduced.

South Carolina Senate Bill 1259: Was referred to subcommittee with no further action taken. It to be reintroduced.

Tennessee House Bill 3245, Senate Bill 3395: Both were sent to the Judiciary committee with no other action. It to be reintroduced.

Washington House Bill 3359: Ws referred to Judiciary with no further action. It to be reintroduced.

As you can see ACS attempt at forcing a technology upon the American people has so far not provided fruitful. It is interesting that the Obama administration, the Brady campaign, million mom march, Violence Policy Center nor any other anti-Second Amendment antagonist has jumped on this band wagon, maybe they don’t think this is such a good idea either.

Once again the information was the idea and information of James Dark published in the Texas State Rifle Association Sportsman Magazine. http:///www.tsra.com.
