We now have Ruger LCP magazines with the extension for the pinky. We also have a new shipment of powder and a few Remington small rifle primers.

For those who are interested we will be co-sponsoring a health care debate with Michael Medved and Thom Hartman on KZNT 1460.

The debate will be on Friday September 11, 2009 from 3 pm to 4 pm. Tune in and listen to this fast moving debate covering townhall meeting, protest and press and media coverage.

This will be a network and nationwide broadcast and looks to be a rather lively debate.

In the cloudy mist of a major ammo shortage it is interesting to note that the Big Mart has had a constant supply of the cheap ammo. They buy direct from some manufactures by-passing our distributor, in turn the small shop owners. Meaning we are stuck with buying the higher priced ammo or do with out. I find this rather disturbing as I can not find ammo fo my own shooting. Still looking for a cheap 410 reloader.

Sticker Shock! That’s what I got and in some ways still have. With the shortage of ammo this summer (actually this year), our summer shooting has taken a sharp turn for the worst. Where we use to shoot the high powers we now shot 22’s, if we can find them. We got a new Taurus Judge 3″ magnum with 3″ barrel, fun little guy to shoot, the 410’s recoil felt more like a 38 special and Kathy is out shooting (and hitting) clays with it. The problem is we ran out of ammo and none in the store. Being the forward thinking guy that I am I started to order some more for us and for the store. What a surprise I had when I found a supplier that had some 410 ammo. Over $12.00 a box of 25, (our cost) needless to say we have no 410 ammo in the store or for personal use. Guess I am going to start reloading it. Anyone have a MEC or other 410 reloader for sale CHEAP! Rick

If you have never had a primer go off while you have been loading you are fortunate. Reloading military brass with out removing the crimp is at some time or other a sure bet to set off a primer. How does this happen? Easy while at the range you as a reloader will police up your brass as well as brass left behind by other shooters. As you sort the brass by caliber you miss that 45 ACP round that was laying among the other brass. If you don’t notice it while depriming, you will notice it when you prime the case. How? By not having removed the military crimp you will cause the primer to tilt or be way to tight to seat in the case, thinking that it is just going in hard you apply more pressure and POP things get lively for a second or two. With firearms and ammunation we are alway taught safety first. The same goes for reloading, at a mimnum you should wear safety glasses and hearing protection. Never have your primers in bulk storage outside of their properly marked storage boxes. While reloading can be fun you must use a certain amount of caution.

Some sources for brass may be you local shooting range. Although it seems that with the shortage everyone is scouring the range for any brass they can find. Keep a check on local gun shops and ask your shooting friends who don’t reload if they will save you their brass. Prices seem to keep going up even thought the metals market is down, part of this is caused by the nation wide shortage of reloading components and loaded ammo. Hopefully things will slow down and the manufacturers will get caught up and we can once again have the supplies for our hobby in supply again.

If anyone has a source for reloading supplies and doesn’t mind sharing their source, I’m sure that all the readers would benefit from the information. I know from our standpoint and talking to our distributors that the whole reloading supply industry and market is backlogged. Manufactures are running 24/7 in attempt to keep up with demands and hopefully they will get caught up sooner than later.

If you have never reloaded your own ammunition before you have missed the pride in workmanship that comes the first time you go to the range and fire a cartridge that you loaded yourself. Many find reloading allows them quiet time with no distractions to bother them. Once you have purchased or procured your brass (the empty cartridge case) you have the most expensive component for reloading. Depending on how you load and take care of your brass you should be able to reuse it from 6 or 7 times for rifle or bottle neck cases to close to 100 time for straight walled cases. Each time you load you will need new bullets, powder and primers.
